Semantic change
·         Lean: thin, emaciated - amelioration
·         Novice: a member of a religious order who hasn’t taken  vows yet – broadened
·         Revolutionary: someone who favours overthrowing the government – broadened
·         Lewd: not having an official position in the church – broadened/pejoration

More ways in which language undergoes semantic change:
·         Coinage - the invention of new words
·         Obsolete - when a word has died out
·         Archaic - old-fashioned/outdated - hardly used
·         Blending - new words from parts of other ones
